About the Second Plane

Maria Montessori identified four developmental planes from birth to 24 years old, each with unique and learning modes. Here we focus on the Second Plane,  The second plane is from 6 to 12 years old, where children experience physical and psychological changes, children display a "herd instinct", or the tendency to work and socialise in groups, as well as the powers of reason and imagination.

The primary school environment is deliberately designed to fit with these developmental needs to support the child with the formation of intellectual independence, of moral sense and of social organisation.

The Montessori Curriculum has been matched with NZ Ministry of Education curriculum objectives. In our unit the NZ curriculum is integrated with the Montessori curriculum.
